What Moneytale is

Moneytale is a web app that downloads the payments from your banks over PSD2 — or reads them from statements — and categorizes them by itself. You see where your money goes, across every account at once, with no retyping. Tuned on Slovak banks; whatever you correct, the app remembers for good. On the first connection ~87 % of payments are categorized automatically (measured on 1,087 transactions from three banks). The AI categorization never sees amounts, IBANs or people's names. And deleting an account is complete, including revoking the bank consents. Moneytale is built by a single developer from Bratislava; the app is in beta.

Facts

  • Web app: automatic spending overview from bank accounts (PSD2 or statement import)
  • Market: Slovakia first, EU ambition; interface in Slovak and English
  • Status: beta TODO: beta launch date
  • Categorization: 7 layers, deterministic rules run before the AI; ~87 % of payments categorized automatically on the first connection (measured on 1,087 transactions, three banks; ceiling ~92 %)
  • Privacy: AI categorization sees no amounts, IBANs, dates or people's names (the exception is machine reading of a statement in an unknown format — the model then receives the statement text); account deletion is complete, including revoking bank consents
  • Tuned on real accounts: VÚB, Tatra banka, Revolut
  • Built in Slovakia by one developer; no investors

The story

The author first built an overview of his own spending, because no app handled Slovak banks properly. Out of the measurements — how many layers of rules it takes, what the AI may and may not see — came a product. Moneytale is that same tool, opened to the public.

Quotable paragraphs

May be reproduced verbatim.

“Slovak banks send wildly different data about payments — which is why Moneytale measures first and categorizes second. Six layers of rules run for free; the AI only gets its turn when the rules fall short, and it asks about each merchant exactly once.”

“Privacy here is not a setting but an architecture: only the merchant name reaches the AI. Amounts, IBANs and people's names physically cannot get to it.”

“Banking apps show you themselves. Moneytale shows you the whole — main account, Revolut and the card in one report.”

FAQ for media

Why the web and not a mobile app?
A report is read, not written into. The web works instantly, everywhere, with no install.
What is it built on?
Kotlin/Spring Boot + React; PSD2 data through a licensed aggregator; self-hosted in the EU.
Business model?
A subscription after the beta; free during it. The data is not sold.
